Thursday, June 28, 2007

Musa Camara, a veteran journalist, who was working for the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), has passed away last Friday in his Bakau Newtown residence. He was remembered by GRTS’ staff “as a hardworking, dedicated and punctual co-worker”. As a professional, he was always keen to share his experience with the younger generation.

Mr. Serign Faye, Programme Director, Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), described the sudden death of Musa Camara as a shock and a big lost, not only to the GRTS, but also to his family members. “Musa Camara is a very hardworking man, entirely dedicated to his work, very reliable, honest and truthful”, he stated in a pathetic tone.

In a desperate mood, he went on to say that one of the rare qualities of late Musa Camara was his high capacity of adapting himself in different situations. In his life time, he has shown strong qualities, and fluent in different languages, such as Mandinga, Wollof, Fula and English. “He was an outstanding man and a real model to all of us and the up-coming journalists, especially in broadcasting. He has been working for the GRTS for almost three decades,” he noted.

Mr. Serign Faye, seized the opportunity, on behalf of SoS Communications, Information and Technology, Director- General of GRTS, management and staff of the GRTS to thank their listeners, especially those who sympathised with them on the death of Musa Camara. “The number of  calls and people who visited GRTS to express their sympathy alone is a clear testimony that, Musa Camara is not only for the GRTS and his family, but the entire nation,” he said.

Ndati Bah, wife of the late Musa Camara, acknowledged that, prior to his death, the late Musa Camara did complain about body pains, especially chest pain, but that does not prevent him from going to work and performing other businesses.
According to her, this sad news occured on Friday, while the late Musa Camara was thinking of going to attend the 4th Edition of Kanilai  International Cultural Festival on Saturday, “but this dream turned into a tragedy”.
