GPA are winners of the 2007 Gamtel sponsored FA cup final of the Gambia Football Association after a dramatic performance last night.

The only goal of the match was scored in the 71st minute through Sanna Nyassi.

Despite loosing a player in the 60th minute with the sending off of Alassan Jarjue, GPA fought very hard to clinch the day.

The first half, which ended goalless, was well contested by both teams with Hawks getting the greatest number of chances.

As title winners GPA went away with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D50, 000.00 while Hawks collected D30, 000.00.

Reacting to the victory, Coach Alhagie Sarr of GPA commended his management for their support “despite loosing the league they kept me going. After loosing the league we went back to rectify our mistakes and make good use of the lessons learnt,” he stated.

He said, “We would start preparing for the CAF Confederation Cup after the month of Ramadan and our objectives is to reach the group stages”

Joseph Gomez, team coach for Hawks Football Club, received the defeat with good faith and hopes to rectify their mistakes come next season after succumbing to GPA four times in a row this year.

Secy Sheikh Omar Faye, Gamtel management, GFA President and officials and a cross section of Football fans attended the final.
