The Gambia Sports Journalists Association now named The Sport Journalists Association of The Gambia, over the weekend, held its triennial congress at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The congress has brought some new faces in the executive.
It saw the former Second Vice President, Miss Sainabou Kujabi taking charge as the new General Secretary, Korka Jallow, the former General Secretary, was elected as Assistant General Secretary.
Namory Trawally, Pa Modou (GRTS), Gibril MS Jassey and Ndey Busso will retain their positions as President, First Vice President, Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer respectively while Dodou Bojang the former PRO was realigned to the position of second Vice President.
Meanwhile the position of Social Secretary, which was occupied by Moses Ndene of City Limits Radio, was discontinued whereas the newly created position of Auditor worked out for Babou Gai.
The three newly co-opted members are: Muhammed Manneh, Isatou Bittaye and Ebou Manneh.
Mr. Namory Trawally, in his report, positioned that the period March 2004- May 2007 as the most successful period in the annals of Sport Journalists Association.
“This is the period when we began to realise our irreputable and significant contribution to sport development and by extension continues to up hold our commitment to support and fulfill our role in government’s Sports policy,”.
Mr Trawally further revealed that in January this year, the Association set up a website ( www.sports.gm ) which he said will provide daily news on Gambian Sports.
He then called on the general public to be participating in the website by logging on frequently and also promote them with useful inputs to enable them keep the site alive and active.
He added that the Association has put in place plans for the training of its members for effective contributions to the development of Sports.
He used the occasion to thank His Excellency Dr. Alhagie Yahya AJJ Jammeh for the support he has been rendering to the Association.
In his remarks after re-election, Mr Namory Trawally expressed his determination to continue to contribute positively for the development of the Association.
“I have taken this re-election as a challenge and I promise never to let you people down,” he remarked.
“Together we can take this Association in the sub region and beyond,” he concluded.
The congress was attended by Brigadier General Lang Tombong Tamba, First Vice President of GFA, Beatrice Allen, 1st vice President of GNOC and member of IOC Women in Sports Commission, Salifu SK Jaiteh Honorary Consular General of Cyprus in The Gambia, Modou Musa General Manager FIB, Musa Njie General Manager of Independence Stadium, Pap Saine Honorary Life President of the Association, Malick Camara of Nyanga Bantang Sports Shop and Alhagie Conteh among others.
