Banjul Athletes Boycott Camp

Friday, December 22, 2006
Reports reaching the Pointsport have disclosed that the 25 athletes that were selected by Banjul to defend the colours of the City in the ongoing National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF) in Brikama have decided to boycott their camp.

The reports added that the athletes were asking for some benefits, which the Banjul Sports Committee was not able to provide. The reports pointed out that the boycott of the athletes has pushed the Banjul delegation officials to withdraw their participation in the athletics championship.

When contacted to throw lights on the issue, the Sports Co-ordinate of Banjul, Arthur Jackson confirmed that their athletes have boycotted the camp following a disagreement between them.

Mr Jackson revealed that the athletes asked the Banjul Sports Committee to refund them three-week daily fares at D25 per athletes and per day for a period of 21 days plus other allowances.

He stated that that kind of money is not available and the athletes decided to work out from the camp.

“Now we are decided to pull out from the athletics event of the National Youth Conference,” he concluded.
