President Yahya Jammeh’s decision to offer scholarships to 15 contestants of the just concluded Miss Africa Beauty Queen, is   indeed in line with his commitment to put education at the centre stage of nation-building. He has already paved the way, by initiating the PEGEP Scholarship; Scholarship for Science and Medical Students, etc.

Also, the scholarships granted to Gambian students in Taiwan and Cuba , also demonstrates a continuity in his policy to develop the education sector as a priority in building a modern and prosperous society.

In   President   Jammeh’s view, education is   a means of raising moral standard, as well as cultural and scientific development. His commitment to compulsory education, and to raise the quality of higher education, indicates that in terms of education, the sky is the limit.

In The Gambia where equality in education has been already set as a basic state policy, the government is geared towards transforming the country into a Sillicon Valley . Certainly, having   acknowledged that the education sector is where the future of any nation is to be built, the Gambian authorities, through the leadership of President Jammeh, are on the right track.
