Buba Sanneh, an independent witness in an alleged theft case against one Almami Darboe, a clearing and forwarding agent at Banjul Seaport, on Tuesday, testified before Principal Magistrate BY Camara of the Banjul Magistrates Court.
Mr Sanneh told the court that on June 29, he went to the police purposely to attend the police selection process, noting that after the selection, he visited Lamin Jadama at the Serious Crime Unit at the Gambia Police Force Headquarters, where he said Jadama asked him to serve as an independent witness in Almami Dardoe’s case.
”While I serve as the independent, the accused made his statement and it was read to him in my presence,” he said. He identified the accused person’s statement in court, which was tendered for identification purpose.
During cross-examination, Mr Sanneh, who claimed to have attended Tahir Senior Secondary School, denied depending on Mr Jadama’s support for him to succeed in the police selection process, adding that he has already been selected and he is waiting for the training to commence.
He reiterated that prior to serving as an independent witness, he asked for money from Lamin Jadama to buy breakfast.
