Late Fund Release Hinders LRR Classroom Construction![]() Wednesday, December 12, 2007 Mrs. Fatou Lamin Faye, Secretary of State for Basic and Secondary Education, last Tuesday informed members of the National Assembly that a delay in the construction of a nine classroom block at the Bureng Upper Basic had been caused by the late disbursement of funds from the European Commission. The Basic and Secondary Education Secy made this disclosure in response to a question raised by Hon. Ba Faye Saidykhan, member for Jarra East, as to the state of affairs of the new Senior Secondary School being constructed in Bureng, Lower River Region. “In 2004, the Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education started the construction of a nine classroom block at the Bureng Upper Basic School through support from the European Commission in a bid to provide additional space,” she said, adding that as far as their record showed, no Senior Secondary School is being constructed at Bureng. According to Secy Faye, due to the delay in the disbursement of funds from the European Commission during the project period, construction got delayed, dragging till the end of the project. Secy Faye was however quick to add that the department of state for Basic and Secondary Education is currently exploring other avenues to secure the resources required to complete the works as well as those on other sites affected by the same problem.
