A number of seven suspects were yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Kayoidy of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, charged with a total of 145 counts relating to fraud and forgery. Estimates regarding the total worth of the offences range from D2M to D4M.
The suspects were Babucarr Baldeh, a soldier, Sulayman Bojang also a soldier, Edrisa Colley and Mercel Jammeh both prison officers and Henry Davis, Alieu Jallow and Sarjo Bah all civilians.
The particulars of the offences allege that the seven suspects, between January and November of this year, issued false cheques to the Central Bank of The Gambia and also forged the signature of the bank’s Principal Accountant.
Mercel Jammeh and Babucarr Baldeh pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against them, while Sulayman Bojang, Edrisa Colley and Sarjo Bah pleaded guilty to some charges and denied others.
Hendry Davis was said to have been absent at yesterday’s court sitting. The case continues today.
