Doudou Janneh, the suspect in the trial over the killing of a 20-year-old London Corner youth, was on Tuesday brought to the Bundung Magistrates’ Court but was subsequently returned to the State Central Prison in Banjul owing to the failure of his counsel to show up in court.

Doudou Janneh, alias Doudou Boy, is standing trial for allegedly killing Sheriff Minteh in London Corner in May of this year. He is due to appear before Magistrate Kumba Sillah- Camara next week after the assignment of the murder case to that magistrate.

It would be recalled that Doudou Janneh appeared before Magistrate Buba Jawo nearly two months ago and was charged with murder but since then, no desirable progress has been made in the trial. But if what Magistrate Sillah-Camara said is any guide, then those keenly following the case can keep their fingers crossed that the status quo will take a dramatic turn for the better.

Magistrate Sillah-Camara pointed out that she would proceed with the case next Tuesday even if the defense counsel was not in court, expressing the need for expeditious adjudication of cases like murder and other related offences.
