150 soldiers ready for Darfur

Dr Ajaratou Isatou Njie-Saidy, Vice-President of the Republic of The Gambia on Friday, attended a demonstration of a contingent of 150 soldiers of the Gambia Armed Forces, to be deployed to Darfur held at Brikama Ranges.

The three-week training package was provided by the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, on behalf of the British Government to The Gambian contingent.

According to reports from the British High Commission in Banjul, the soldiers reacted to the training with great professionalism and enthusiasm.

The training included patrol skills, mine awareness skills, convoy drills and searching techniques - replicating many of the tasks that they will be expected to carry out in Darfur.

The Vice-President expressed admiration of the professionalism of both the trainers and the trainees.
