Thursday, April 19, 2007
Lamin Bojang, second defence witness in the on-going murder case of Ron Ford, involving Dawda Bojang and Kawsu Jarju yesterday, ended his testimony before Principal Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Under cross-examination, Mr. Bojang maintained that before his mother gave the said D10, 000 to the police investigators, she called the Alkalo and some elders to serve as her witnesses. He said, he did not know whether the said money was tendered in court as an exhibit.

When asked by the DPP Emmanuel Fagbenle on whether he knows that giving money to police investigators is an offense, the witness said, the police investigators asked his mother to give them the D10, 000 that is said to have belonged to the deceased Ron Ford, for the withdrawal of the case against the first accused person.

According to him, his name was written on a document at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Headquarters in Banjul. He explained that he was taken to the NIA office and his brother Dawda, knew that he was at the NIA, adding that both of them were detained at the same place.

Lawyer Fagbenle put it to him that the testimony about his presence at the NIA is a false statement, but the witness maintained that he was detained there. Mr Bojang said he cannot remember the day he was released, noting that he was arrested in 2002.

When asked whether he was present at the time Ron Ford, was buried, he answered in the negative, adding that he did not know who killed the deceased.

He said he did not know whether, the first accused lived with Ron Ford prior to his death, neither did he know whether they used to visit one Momodou Salieu, before and after his death. “The police arrested Dawda Bojang, before they conducted a search in his compound in Kerr Serign”, he stated.
