‘Visa seekers suffer financially’

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Balla Garba Jahumpa, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and National Assembly Matters, has said that visa applicants suffer both financially and psychologically in acquiring visas at the US and UK embassies in the country.

SoS Jahumpa made this remark on Thursday, while responding to questions during a session at the National Assembly for the Foreign Affairs to engage the US and the UK embassies with a view to reduce visa fees, consider refund of the substantial sums paid by unsuccessful applicants, provide advice for the denied applicants rather than stamping passports with rejection.

The Foreign Affairs Secretary of State concurred with the concerns raised by the National Assembly. He assured that his department will engage the competent authorities at the American and British embassies for consideration.
