St Joseph Senior Secondary School last Friday June 15, 2007 held its Speech and Prize-Giving ceremony at a ceremony held at the school grounds.
In her opening remark, Mrs. Adelle Sock, Vice Principal of the school, congratulated the passing-out students and emphasized the importance of education and the benefit of self discipline. However, she admonished them to be humble in their quest to meet the future challenges.
Mrs. Sock also advised the students to put God first in everything they do and be at peace with everybody since the world is characterised by changing fortunes of time.
Mrs. Sock then dilated on the activities and achievements of the school during the past year. She commended Mrs. Catherine Theo-Harding, Head of Department for Modern Languages, for helping to raise funds for the renovation of the school library and science laboratory.
Mrs. Nana Ofori-Atta Oguntola, Director of Vanisha Productions, who was also the Guest Speaker, and an ex-student of the school, paid special tribute to her former English teachers, Mrs. Helena Njai and Mrs. Vicky Ndure.
She advised the passing-out students to be cautious as they prepare to face life after school. She also reminded them of the challenges and temptations ahead of them and urged them to keep in tune their aspirations and should abhor the things that would lead them astray.
The Principal of the school, Sr. Catherine Jarra congratulated the passing-out students and wished them good luck in their future under-takings. She equally commended the teachers for their good work in ensuring that the students succeed in their academic work.
Principal Catherine further also extended thanks and appreciation to the President Yaya Jammeh and to the Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, Dr. Patrick Chang for donating $8,625.81 to the school for Science equipment and the upgrading of the school library.
At the end of the ceremony, graduates received their Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificates and prizes were awarded to outstanding students in different merits.
Philomen Jarju, outgoing Head girl gave the vote of thanks and read a special poem before the crowd. She also presented, on behalf of the graduates, a gift to the administration and staff.
