National Assembly Resumes Sitting Today

The second meeting of the National Assembly in the 2007 Legislative Session commences today, Monday 4 June.

During this meeting the lawmakers are expected to pass bills on the Honourable Members Pension and Gratuity (Amendment) Bill and Motions such as ratification of the Convention of the African Union; ratification of the WHO Framework on Tobacco Control; the ratification of the Islamic Development Bank Loan for Participation in Financing the Provision of 100 Water points in four Regions in The Gambia (Loan NO. GM - 059); the ratification of the International Fund for Agricultural Development Loan for Rural Finance Project (Loan No. 698 - GM) and the ratification of Bi-lateral Agreement/ MOU between the Republic of The Gambia and Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Furthermore, there will be laying of papers and reports. Honourable Fatoumata Jahumpa-Ceesay, Speaker of the National Assembly, who took stock of the achievement by the House, assured of more achievement by the House given the current stability.

The Honourable Speaker, second time National Assembly Member, urged the National Assembly Committees to work in collaboration with the leadership to achieve maximum results.

More bills and motions bordering on the welfare of the people of the country, the Speaker stated, are on the way.
