The Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services on Wednesday received ten rescue boats with outboard engines.

The handsome donation was made by Rotary Club of Bristol Aztec, Marne Le Valle in England, Rotary Club of Banjul and Rotary Foundation.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony of the boats and its paraphernalia, the President of Rotary Club of Banjul, Fatou Bin Manneh, explained that the donation was made possible thanks to a project initiated through the instrumentality of a Rotarian, Rory, who was a chief fire officer with Avon Fire and Rescue Services. The project, she said, was initiated to enable the fire and ambulance services of The Gambia render improved services to the people.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services, Chief Fire Officer, Roger Bakurin, said the donation would go a long way in enabling the fire service deliver efficient and effective service to the people.

“The donation is more than a pleasure,” stated he, adding that the fire service is doing a good job but their operations are hindered by some variables.

Chief fire officer Bakurin announced with joy that a team of fire officers would arrive in Banjul on Wednesday to start a training programme for their Gambian equivalents.
