The Banjul Magistrates Court, presided over by Magistrate Kayode Olajubutu, on Thursday, sentenced two convicts, Lamin Ceesay and Ousman Nyass to a one-year imprisonment each, without an option of a fine, upon their plea of guilt to charges of escaping from lawful custody.
Lamin Ceesay escaped from custody on the 6th of December, 2007,while serving a sentence at the Mile Two State Central Prison in Banjul. He was later arrested on the same day at the Banjul ferry terminal while trying to get away from Banjul.
The particulars of the offense added that Ousman Nyass, another prisoner, also escaped from lawful custody on December 10, 2007, while he was admitted at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) in Banjul. Mr Nyass is currently serving a five-year jail term.
