The Banjul High Court, presided over by Justice Na Ceesay Sallah-Wadda, yesterday granted bail to two of the three remanded suspects in connection with a theft involving a vehicle at State House, Banjul.

The duo were arrested together with Momodou Lamin Sonko, managing director of Boto Construction Company, and Dominico Fedeli, an Italian national, who has been remanded at the State Central Prison, Mile II.

Handing down her ruling, Justice Sallah-Wadda, granted a court bail of D1 million to each of the accused persons, plus a Gambian surety. This verdict was preceded by a summary of the submissions by both the defence and the state counsel.

“The surety shall enter into a bail bond with the principal registrar of the High Court for an amount of D1 million for which if any of the applicants herein are to abscond, legal proceedings will commence against the surety for the recovery of the sum”.

Immediately after her ruling, the defence counsel, Lawyer Lamin Camara asked the court as to whether the D1 million should be in cash or an authenticated bond.

Justice Sallah-Wadda responded, saying that the surety shall sign a bail bond of D1 million or lodge a deposit with the principal registrar of the Banjul High Court.
