The people of Janjangbureh are concerned about an alleged rapist, whose indentity is still unknown to residents in the area.

Report indicated that the rapist lives in the bush of Janjangbureh, where he emerges to rape passer-by women and young girls or those working in the rice fields at the peak of the Island.

Sources told the Daily Observer, that the purported rapist, had few weeks ago attempted to rape an 11-year-old girl (name withheld) from Nema, a nearby village in Janjangbureh, after which the girl was taken to Bansang Hospital for a medical check-up, only to be later discovered that she wasn’t actually raped.

Our sources also revealed that the 11-year-old girl from Nema got sick after the incident and died five (5) days later. However, sources added, the people of Janjangbureh last Wednesday night mis-identified a man, thinking that he was the alleged rapist, severely beating him.

Meanwhile, another man who is identified as Mustapha Jamilo Jammeh was also caught and seriously beaten as he emerged from the bush. He was later taken to the Police Station where he was interrogated, but refused to talk or identify himself.

However, Police in Central River Region had warned against beating suspected individuals that do not live within their community, but instead report any suspected individuals to the police.
