Two Gamtel Staff Appear at Court Martial![]() Wednesday, January 10, 2007 Lamin Colley and Ousman Njie, two Gamtel staff, on Saturday, 6th January 2007, testified before the general court martial at the Yundum military barracks.
In his testimony, Lamin Colley, a Technician at the Gamtel Abuko Earth Station, informed the court that on 20th & 21st March 2006, he was on duty at the Abuko Earth Station when Capt. Wassa Camara visited there demanding to see one Mr Njie, the Director of International Operations at the Abuko Earth station. He said he then facilitated communication between Wassa Camara and Mr Njie on telephone, adding that Capt. Wassa Camara had a brief talk with Mr Njie before leaving. Mr Colley, who said he recognised Capt. Camara, further adduced that on the two occasions that Capt. Camara visited the Abuko Earth Station, he appeared in mufti. He said after the 21st March 2006, he has not seen Wassa Camara in person but saw him on television. Also testifying, Ousman Njie, Director of International Operations at the Abuko Earth Station, said that the Abuko Earth Station is the main gateway of all international calls to and from The Gambia. He added that on the two days in question, he got calls from the Abuko Earth Station from someone identifying himself as Capt. Camara. He said he enquired from Capt. Wassa Camara what the calls were about, and Capt. Camara told him that he had instructions to collect something from him, which was supposed to come from the sister of one Ebrima Fatty.
