WRYC awards individuals, institutions

Western Region Youth Committee (WRYC) recently issued certificates to 25 deserving individuals and 24 institutions, at a ceremony held in Brikama, Western Region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Baba Darboe, chairperson of Western Region Youth Committee said that the Western Region YouthCommittee is mandated to coordinate and supervise all the youth activities of Western Region. Mr Darboe revealed  that the awards are meant to show the youths’ appreciation to individuals and institutions that have endeavoured over the years to empower the youths and also facilitated the 2006 binneal National Youth Conference and Festival which was hosted by Western Region. He then thanked the awardees and urged the youths to close ranks in the interest of national progress.

Mrs Sainabou Fall, deputy governor of Western Region, described the youths of the region as role models for other youths, citing some prominent youth associations like the Friendship Cooperative Society in Kombo Cenral who are engaged in Poultry farming and KEYCDA, in Kombo East who are also engaged in youth and child empowerment. Deputy Governor Fall then congratulated the youths of the region and urged then to keep up the good job.

Malang Jassy, director of Youth and Sports commended the youths for their move. He attested that Western Region is blessed with committed and well motivated youths. He then urged the youths of the region to be steadfast in all their routine activities.

Other speakers included Mr Musa Mbaye, director of the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) and Sereign Modou Joof, public relations officer of Brikama Area Council who all commended the youths for their steadfastness.

The award ceremony  was attended by Mr Malang Jassy, director of Youth and Sports who represented the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Sheriff Gomez,  former governor of Western Region, Abdou FM  Badjie, Ousman Gaye, former chairman of Brikama Area Council and Balla Musa Cham, former chief executive officer of Brikama Area Council, who were all awarded.

Ms Matida Daffeh, female representative of the WRYC delivered the vote of thanks.
