Today is World Red Cross Day

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

The Bundung Home Red Cross link today joins other Red Cross organisations around the world to celebrate World Red Cross Day, which falls on 8 May.

The Bundung Home Red Cross link is one of the strongest links in the Kanifing Municipal Council.

This year’s celebration will mark a weeklong programme with the theme: Develop Humanity and Alleviate Human Suffering.

In an interview with The Point newspaper recently, Dawda Samba, the Chairperson of the organising committee and deputy link leader, said this year’s celebrations would include march-past, symposium, sensitization campaign in the media, and other activities.

He said the exercise would help to capacitate members of the Red Cross and measure the development that has taken place in it as well as design the way forward for the organisation.

He added that the Bundung Home Red Cross link has been celebrating the day since its inception, and the idea of celebrating this year was brought forward by dynamic link members with support from the link’s advisers, Mr. Baboucarr Cham, General Manager of City Limits Radio Station, and Mr. Pap Saine, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Point newspaper.

He also urged people in The Gambia to come out in their multitudes to celebrate the day.
