Boy 19 Jailed

One Lamin Sanneh, a 19 year old youth, was on Monday convicted and sentenced to six months in jail, with hard labour, without any option of a fine by Senior Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court.

Lamin Sanneh, who was charged with escaping from lawful custody, pleaded guilty.

Narrating the fact of the matter before the court, Police Prosecutor 510 Touray told the court that, on March 16 , 2008, while the accused was on detention at the Bundung Police Station, between the hour’s of 4.00-4.30 am, he broke his cell door and escaped from the station. According to him, he was apprehened on March 17, 2008 and brought back to Bundung police station.

Lamin Sanneh who pleaded guilty to the offence in his mitigation plea, begged the court to have mercy on him.

Magistrate Kumba Sillah Camara on her ruling, sentenced him to six months imprisonment with hard habour without an option of fine.
