Mosque Road residents raise concerns

africa » gambia » churchills town
Friday, September 12, 2008
Residents of Churchill’s Town have expressed concern about the heightened risk of accidents along the Mosque Road in Churchill’s Town. Since the new road was erected, dangerous driving seems to have become the order of the day.

According to one Abdoulie Gaye, there is an urgent need to put up a ‘‘sleeping police’’, as only preventative measures can help to curb the threat.
Buttressing this idea, Omar Jobe called on drivers to respect the traffic code by driving carefully in busy areas like the Mosque Road.

Alpha Jallow, whose shop is located along the road, said that drivers should be very mindful about the impact of irresponsible behaviour. ‘‘It’s unacceptable for drivers to not respect the speed limit. They should not take Mosque Road as a speedway,’’ he said.

He went on to call on the National Road Authority (NRA) to rapidly establish a series of traffic humps on the road.
