Angela Horton Foundation, a Gambian registered charitable organisation, in partnership with Stichting Kalipha Foundation based in Netherland, with support from the Dutch government, recently supported the construction of a three classroom block at John Puckering Comprehensive Senior Secondary School.  The project, worth over D639,135, will be formally inaugurated on June 30, 2008.

According to Kalipha Jobe, the executive director of Angela Horton foundation, the three organisations are actively involved in numerous sponsorship programmes, relief activities and a wide range of activities, specifically on educational activities.

Mr Frank Schalken on behalf his wife who is a member of the Stichting Kalipha in Holland and also a donor to the project, on Wednesday visited the project.

Speaking during Mr Frank’s visit on Wednesday, Mr Jobe said  that before the establishment of the Senior Secondary School and the skill centre in the school premises, students from the satelitte villages found it difficult to access such facility. “Today, they are relieved of the burden. Even scholarships are awarded to the needy and deserving students” he said.

The elated Mr Jobe thanked the donors for their tremendous support, noting that it will create a positive impact to the welfare of the children and the nation as a whole. He also thanked the teachers for their dedication and commitment to the progress of the school.

It could be recalled that Mr Frank Schalken was in The Gambia on behalf of his wife Mrs Wilma Schalken-Vrins, general Manager of Ngala Lodge who is also a member of the Stichting Kalipha Foundation in the Netherland. The visit was meant to up date the donors on the state of the project in the school.
