There was tragedy at Leybato bar and restaurant last Wednesday when Abdoulie Ndow was reportedly drowned while swimming. The late Abdoulie Ndow was said to be fresh from High School and resident at Bakau Newtown. The tragedy occurred during an Inter-House.

The deceased was said to be an amateur swimmer, which it’s believed may have contributed to his getting into difficulty, A search of the area was carried out for two days but efforts to locate the young man's body proved fruitless.

Both Junior and Senior secondary schools throughout the Greater Banjul area conduct inter-house sporting competitions during the second term of each academic year. This year the sporting events were followed by beach picnics that brought together students from different schools despite alarms being raised by authorities who were concerned about the possibility of disasters.
