Aids on Stage, a charity organisation based in the Netherlands has decided to give support to the Juffureh/Albreda Youth Society (JAYS) Aids awareness drama group to enable them effectively carry out their activities in the Niumi and Jokadu.
This was disclosed by Marjam Altena, founder of the group, who is on a visit to The Gambia to au-fait herself with the activities of JAYS drama group.
According to her, she came to know about The Gambia and JAYS, through a friend who was on a holiday in the country as a tourist. “Upon my friend’s return to the Netherlands, he spoke to me about the activities of the group. I showed keen interest and that’s how I came to The Gambia,” she said.
She revealed that they will fund the group’s activities for a year, noting that the whole activity will be run by the community themselves. “I will be coming from time to time to see how they are going on with the sensitisation campaign,” she added.
For his part, Mamadi Faal, Executive Secretary of JAYS, said Ms Altena is on a fact-finding and impact-assestment mission and is very much impressed with what she saw.
He said the drama group is doing a good job by sensitising the people in their areas of operation namely, Lower Niumi, Upper Niumi and Jokadu.
He finally commended Ms Altena for forging collaboration with his people
