Dr Kevin AMC Pherson, Administrator of the Marcus Garvey Leadership Charter School in Oaklahoma City, USA recently estalished an educational, social and cultural exchange programme or link with Juffureh, North Bank Region (NBR).
The signing ceremony of the exchange programme was graced by the chief, elders, students and residents of Juffureh Village.
Dr MC Pherson, said the link was triggered by what he describes as cordial relationship between the chief and elders of the village, after numerous personal visits to West Africa and Juffureh village.
He also touched on the publication of Alex Haley’s bestseller, “Roots”, a book which chronicles the life of Kunta Kinteh, a slave taken from Juffureh village to the Americas during the slave trade.
Dr MC Pherson revealed that Luis Farrakhan, a renowned Islamic activist and social revolutionary in the USA built a Mosque, provided a loudspeaker for the mosque and training centre for the people of Juffureh.
Dr MC Pherson and his friend Mr Chris Dean had also donated a loudspeaker to enable villagers of Juffureh hear calls from a distance to their daily prayers.
He also held talks with the villagers as to how the Marcus Garvey School staff, students and parents could assist the village children.
Dr MC Pherson, also spoke on his resolve to raise funds for the school, and possibility of meeting pen pals.
