Briton’s murder case set for Judgement

Monday, August 27, 2007

Senior Magistrate Buba Jawo of Bundung Magistrates Court is expected to deliver his final verdict on August 29, 2007, in the Briton’s murder case, involving one Dawda Bojang of Ginack Neeji and Kawsu Jarju.

The duo were standing trial on charges of killing Mr Ron Ford, a Briton, in 2004 who was in The Gambia on holidays at Kabakel, in the Southern region of Cassamance .

The long protracted case that started four years ago has witnessed testimonies from both the prosecution and the defence, including Musa Mboob, Pateh Bah, Lamin Bojang, among others.

However, this murder case -first handled by the then Principal Magistrate Kebba Sanyang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, now the Attorney General and Secretary of State for Justice - has suffered setbacks, following his appointment.

Senior Magistrate Buba Jawo of Bundung Magistrates’ Court then took over the case file in early 2007, during which he adopted the proceedings of his predecessor in hearing the case twice on weekly basis.

This decision has now led to the speedy proceeding of the case and the date for the judgement finalised.
