Guinean Convicted for Perjury

A Guinean, Hamidou Sowe, was last Tuesday sentenced to one week in jail for committing perjury.

Hamidou was sent to jail following a judgement that he had given perjured evidence motivated by his desire to escape the warmth of justice.

Magistrate Moses Richards of Kanifing Magistrates’ Court said he had on several occasions warned Hamidou to desist from lying in court but Hamidou would not heed. Mr. Richards pointed out that Hamidou had been making several attempts to interfere in the justice delivery system by giving perjured testimonies to court.

Meanwhile, the convict was undergoing trial following a law-suit filed against him by one Modika of Abuko for recovery of D26, 000.
