Gamworks holds 3rd AGM

The Gambia Agency for the Management of Public Works (GAMWORKS), on Tuesday held its 3rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year ending December 31, 2006, at the Paradise Suites Hotel.

Rt. Rev Dr Solomon Tilewa Johnson, Chairman of GAMWORKS Board, presenting his annual report and financial statements said: “It was an impressive year in terms of the achievements of management and board performance of its oversight functions”.

He revealed that the highlights of the year include the hosting of the 16th General Assembly of AFRICATIP and the completion of the Poverty Alleviation and Capacity Building Project (PACABP).

Rt. Rev. Dr Johnson also dilated on the operating economic environment, corporate strategy, major developments and governance of GAMWORKS agency.

For his part, Mr. Ebrima Cham, Director General GAMWORKS Agency described the past twelve months as another busy and challenging year for the agency, expressing hope that they have delivered to the satisfaction of their clients and beneficiaries.

On the operations review, Mr. Cham revealed that for the past six years, the US$20 million poverty alleviation and capacity building project (PACABP), which closed on 31st December, 2006 was the flagship project of the agency.

According to him, these activities included the construction of Kayupa Road in KMC, Brikama carpark and phase two of Gambisarra water supply sub-project and the extension of water supply network in Brikama and Kombo North.

He added that there was also completion of the capacity building activities, such as training of clerks of works and contractors, and technical assistance to the project co-ordinating office of the Department of State for Local Government and Lands.

“The impressive performance that was recorded in the last twelve months could not have come without the hardwork and dedication of my staff, and the unflinching support and direction given by the board”, he concluded.

Abdul Aziz Dieye, Auditor of GAMWORKS Agency said the objective of the financial audit is to express a professional opinion on the financial statements of The Gambia Agency for the Management of Public Works as to whether they reflect the financial position of the agency and income and expenditures of the agency as at 31st December, 2006.

He also dilated on management audit, mounting policies such as accounting convention, foreign currencies transactions, income and work performed.
