Adama  Jallow, Manager of the National Tuberculosis  and  Leprosy Programmes  has said that the resurgence of TB poses a major health concern for many African Government, as  the desease is on the  increase.

Mr Jallow made this remarks last  Wednesday at the closing ceremony of a three days workshop on Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization and Strategy  (ACSM) for stakeholders in thefight against Tuberculosis  and  Leprosy held at the Paradise Suite Hotel in Kololi.

According to him, the increase of Tuberculosis  and  Leprosy in Africa is attributed to many factors and key among them are inadquate resources allocations.

“The dearth of skilled manpower and basic equipement as well as the likewise participation of private sector and community group,as stakeholders in the ACSM you should always bring important issue such as the need to combat and the spread of TB,’ he said.

He added that the  national tuberculosis  and  leprosy programmes track record is so impressive. “ As a nation, we have attained a nationwide coverage and the  treatement of TB been is free of charge irrecpective of nationality in the Gambia.”

For his part, Lamin F Bojang, speaker of National Youth Parliment,said the  training on ACSM will equip participants on the preventive measures of TB.

“No single institutions or individual can do it alone.There is a need for collaborative work in the fight against TB in the country,” he said.

He commended DoSH and the Royal Netherland Tuberculosis Foundation for their fore seight in organising such forum in The Gambia.
