Thursday, October 4, 2007

The Secretary of State for the newly-created  Department of State for Petroleum, Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Ousman Jammeh, has called on the employees of Nawec to do all what it takes to live up to expectations, noting that development cannot be achieved in the absence of energy.

Mr. Jammeh made these remarks recently at Kotu Power Station during a familiarization tour of institutions under his department.

Mr. Jammeh made assurance of his department’s continued support and co-operation with the energy sector.

He said though a lot had been done for the development of the sector, which is now capable to produce up to 50 megawatts of energy (Kotu and Brikama Power Stations combined), they should continue striving to meet the very highest service delivery.

“The public must be taken very seriously. Their concerns must be addressed,” he said.

Mr. Jammeh also called on the Nawec Management to introduce a phone-in-programme so that people could have the opportunity to bring forward their concerns and also provoke suggestions for the betterment of the institution.

Mr. Jammeh was accompanied by Ebrima Camara, Permanent Secretary, Office of the President, Baa Saho, Director of Energy and Ebrima J.T. Kujabi, Director of Press and Public Relations at Office of the President.
