Kuntaur Area Council Chairman ‘resigns’

Fafa K Touray, the Chairman of the Kuntaur Area Council, in the Central River Region, who left for the United States some months ago on leave is reported to have unceremoniously resigned from his position.

According to reports reaching the Daily Observer, Mr Touray upon staying in the United States for some months, wrote to his council informing them of his decision not to come back to the Gambia now.

When contacted to shed light on the story, the Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Mam Sait Jallow, said he knows nothing about Mr Touray as he has not heard from him since he left the country. Other senior officials of the council also refused to comment on the issue.

However, the Daily Observer reliably learnt that one Assan Fatou Yorke, is now acting as Chairman of the Kuntaur Area Council.

It could be recalled that Mr Touray was the former National Assembly Member for Lower Saloum from 1997 to 2002. Following, the completion of his first 5-year term as NAM, he lost the APRC primary election to Ndey Njie, the current NAM for the area.
He later contested for the chairmanship of the the Kuntaur Area Council in the last local government elections which he narrrow won against Mr Dullo Bah of the NRP.
