Proprietor Assures Quality Delivery

Lamin Institute of Professional Studies (LIPS), an academic centre for excellence, last Saturday celebrated, in grand style, their four years of successful operation in the country. LIPS entered the Gambia’s educational topography in 2003 through the initiative of a Nigerian-born computer wizard, Dr Daniel Osagie, supported by his loyal wife, Mrs Blessing Osagie.

The highly-praised wave-making professional institute was set up with the chief goal of empowering Gambian youths with sound entrepreneurial skills so as to enable them contribute meaningful towards national development.

Since its inception, the centre has been growing by leaps and bounds as they continued to produce year in year out great brains. In fact a good number of their graduates are today serving in all sectors of the economy while some are now pursuing further education in various colleges abroad.

As part activities marking the 4th anniversary celebrations, the Executive Director of LIPS staged a never-to-be-forgotten beach bash held at Lebato beach, bringing together under one roof the staff and students of both branches of LIPS- Lamin and Brikama.

The merry-making event which was an attempt to excite the senses was marked by eating of mouth-watering and finger-licking dishes, drinking of assorted cold refreshments and the exhibition of high dancing skills as both students and lecturers were seen wriggling their bodies likes snails from the start to the tail end of the programme.

Speaking to this reporter who was among the bevy of invited guests, the Founder, Proprietor cum Executive Director of LIPS, Dr Daniel Osagie, described the event as a time well-spent, adding that the occasion was so momentous that it would remain indelible in the minds of students and staff of LIPS.

The elated and ebullient LIPS boss was full of praises for the Gambian government for allowing him to operate  in the country. He also showered encomiums to the people of Lamin, his host, for the hospitality they accorded him since he stormed the town, emphasizing that without their support, he might not have, after all, actualized his cherished dream of serving ‘this great country and her friendly citizens’.

Dr Daniel went on to renew his clarion call to the youths of this country to take favourable advantage of the golden opportunity  LIPS provides to its students . He noted that at LIPS they do not only empower students with sound entrepreneurial skills but also go the extra mile to help their graduates secure employment in the market. Besides, he said, they also help give transport fares to students coming from far away areas.

While assuring that LIPS will never relent in delivering quality lectures, Dr Daniel urges parents to enroll their children in LIPS. “ We pride ourselves of being one of the best training institutes in The Gambia and yet our tuition fees are indeed pocket friendly,” asserted the LIPS number one man.

Ali B Chune, LIPS’ Vice Principal Academic, said that he was delighted with the ‘massive’ turnout, adding that the programme was geared towards exposing students as well as making them know each other.  “ We always teach them about tourism and leisure, so it is nice for them also to sample the practical aspect of it.

‘Bringing them here for them interact and socialize is a wonderful thing,” he said, while commending Dr Daniel for conceiving the all- important initiative.

Abraham Carvalho, LIPS’ Vice Principal administration described the fun-filled event as a family reunion, adding: “ I’m so satisfied that I cannot capture my feeling in words.”

Mankanye Conteh, Secretary at LIPS Brikama branch was also so impressed that she could not even hide feeling. “ I really  enjoyed the programme and I would I like to thank Mr Daniel for coming up with this package,” she enthused.

Meanwhile, some of the students who spoke to this reporter including Ya Sona Sanneh and Fanta Ceesay all described the programme as nice and memorable.

It would be recalled that last year , the Director of LIPS  organised a cocktail reception for the press contingent of The Gambia in recognition of their sterling contribution towards the promotion and development of LIPS.
