Mustapha Sidibeh, Mariama T. Jallow Set Records
Mustapha Sidibeh of Banjulinding village in Kombo North has once again set a new record in the Annual Njawara Marathon held last Saturday in Njawara village, North Bank Region.
Mustapha Sidibeh emerged first in the competition that brought together 29 competitors around the country.
He won the competition in 2005, emerged second in the 2006 edition and claimed the top position in this year’s edition.
The 10km and 5km race for boys and girls respectively is organised annually by the Njawara Youth Development Society. This year’s event was aimed at raising funds for the provision of school furniture for the Njawara Lower Basic School.
Mustapha Sidibeh was awarded a colour Television and a trophy.
Tijan Bojang emerged second and received a Radio Cassette player.
However, in the 5km female category, last year’s champion, Mariama T. Jallow, who ran the 5km race in 13 minutes, went home with a coloured Television and a trophy.
Jella Jobe came out second position and was awarded a Radio Cassette player, T-shirt; certificate while Fatou N. Sanyang, who came out third, went home with a Radio Cassette player, T-shirt and certificate.
Meanwhile, the championship, which was characterised by series of programmes, was attended by the Deputy Governor of the North Bank Region Mr Momodou Marr, the chief Executive officer of Kerewan Area Council, Mr Tamba Kinteh and other dignitaries and a cross-section of the community including some guest from Kaolack, Senegal.
