A new multi - purpose skill centre was recently inaugurated in the Kombo North town of Old Yundum. The construction of the magnificent edifice was jointly sponsored by Harry Rita, a German philanthropist and Ebrima Kebbeh, a native of Niumi Berending.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the chairman of the Centre, Mr Seedy Gassama stated that the establishment of the multi-purpose skill centre is meant to complement government’s efforts in empowering Gambian youths with sound entrepreneurial skills. He patted the sponsors on the back for the ‘commendable initiative’ saying, “Only a good friend would make such a magnanimous gesture.” He further revealed that the Centre is named, “Domang Domang” this is a Mandinka phrase meaning easy easy.
According to Mr Gassama, the newly-inaugurated multi-purpose skill centre would be offering courses such as carpentry, welding, computing, and sewing among others.
For their part, Mr Ebrima Kebbeh and Harry Rita, the sole sponsors of the construction of the Centre, commended the people of Old Yundum for appreciating and recognizing their modest support. They assured the community of their organization’s continued support for the young people of The Gambia. They challenged the youth to also take full advantage of the Centre by enrolling there for the betterment of themselves and the nation.
