A two weeks extensive arts work exhibition recently came to an end at the Africa Arts Gallery in Senegambia Beach Hotel. This exhibition was part of efforts towards the promotion, development and preservation of the spirit of arts and culture in the Gambia.

Ms Anna, proprietress of the Africa Arts Gallery, told Arts and Culture that the arts gallery is geared towards the promotion and development of arts in the Gambia, Africa and the world at large. “There is a need to promote the development of arts in worldwide. Art is a noble profession which deserved encouragement in the interest of both socio-economic and political development of any country,” she said.

For his part, Michael Kuna Manga, prominent Gambian artist, an abstract painter and Coordinator of Arts from the Gambia, noted that the two weeks long arts exhibition was organised by himself, Malick Ceesay and Moulaye Sarr in collaboration with Africa Arts Gallery proprietress, Ms Anna.

According to him, the participants are all professional Gambian artists in their various area of specialisation. He added that, the purpose of organising the arts exhibition especially right in the peak of tourist off season is meant to renew the spirit of arts and culture in the The Gambia, Africa and the world at large.

“It is part of wake up call for people to notice the role of artists towards the development of the society, especially in the 21st century. Gambian artists are more than ever willing to diversify their products. Looking at the nature of their products displayed at the exhibition, it is a clear manifestation of talents. We are willing to adapt to the ever changing circumstances. We cannot grow without support from the public, especially the tourists, diplomatic community among others,” he said.

Mr. Manga expressed optimism about prospect development of arts and culture in the country, saying Gambian artists are really growing to an enviable extend.
