Serrekunda West has been drawn in Group B for this year’s zonal Super Nawettan which kicked off last evening.
The Westerns who have never won the title since the inception of the tournament, were drawn alongside Brikama, Gunjur and Lamin.
Serrekunda East last won the annual event that features eight Nawettan zones after defeating Brikama in the finals.
Despite not ever winning the title, Serrekunda West has made several appearances in the finals and semi-finals of this tournament.
Pa Sulay Jobe, Secretary General of the Serrekunda West Sports Association, said this side has always produced the best team in every zonal competition but have not been lucky to win the cup.
He said they are very hopeful of winning this year’s title as they have very outstanding players selected to do the job.
“As part of preparations for the tournament, we identified 39 players by the selection committee and out of that we selected a final list of 25,” explained Mr Jobe.
With high hopes of becoming champions this year, Serrekunda West will take on Lamin today at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.
The Group features defending champions, Serrekunda East, Sukuta, Bakau and Banjul.
