British philantropists assist Tallinding nursery school

British philanthropists Mr. Ken, Jane Bloomfield and Ann Marie Willis, from Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom on Wednesday donated reading books, a TV and video set, second hand clothes and two computers valued over 45,000 dalasis to Tallinding Central Nursery School.

The donors’ visit to the school also coincided with the launching of a new sponsorship programme and exchange of badges for the close cooperation between St Joseph school in the UK and Tallinding School Nursery School.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Buba K Camara, headmaster of the school said the British philanthropies first visited the school in October 2005 and donated sum of D9,138 to sponsor eight students.

“In 2006/7 academic year, 80% of the total number 174 pupils got sponsored. These sponsorship packages include two sets of uniforms for each student and school fees,” he said.

According to Camara, these donated items will go along way in boosting the morale of the school.

He commended the donors for their gesture and prayed that the bi-lateral relationship between them will grow in strength and give pride to all.

For his part, Fabakary Tombong Jatta National Assembly Member for Serrekunda Central, and majority leader of the National Assembly expressed gratitude for the donation.

Speaking earlier, Dusu Sima, representative of the Director of Region One, emphasized that early childhood education is a great concern to the present government.

Other speakers at the ceremony included, among others, Alhagie Ebou Badjie, Alkalo of Tallinding, Nafansu Colley a community elder.
