The Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services, in collaboration with the Science Club of Serekunda Lower Basic School, recently held a day sensitisation on fire safety precaution at the school’s ground in Serekunda.
Speaking at the ceremony, John Coly Ndow, Headmaster of the School said initiating such a sensitisation at the school level will contribute immensely to the awareness campaign among the young people on the dangers of fire.
He thanked the Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services for responding to their call, describing their work as important.
For his part, Sang Ndow, Divisional Chief Fire Officer, Kanifing Municipal Council, said fire fighters play a vital role in any country.
According to him, incidents of delay in reaching out to fire scenes are often caused by the lack of enough water to refill their tanks and poor road network facilities in some settlements, which makes it impossible for their vehicle to get easy access.
In his presentation, Sheriff BA Sonko, Sub-Officer at the training School outlined the main causes of fire outbreaks in our communities.
According to him, if any of these component is missing there is likely that there will be no fire incident.
The sensitisation ceremony was witnessed by students of the school, Alkalo of Serrekunda, parents and the community.
