In respect of their support to the education sector in The Gambia, The Gambia Experience, a leading tour operator in the country, on 5 April donated D233,675 to five schools in the country.
The donation, as part of The Gambia Experience’s funding of school projects, is meant for the renovation, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction of various projects in the schools.
The beneficiaries are Fonkoi Lower Basic School, Medina Angalleh Lower Basic School, Mount Carmel Lower Basic School, Soma Secondary School, and Nyawurulung Lower Basic School.
Mrs Joyce Stavroulakis, Resort Manager of The Gambia Experience, speaking at the presentation ceremony, said the company has been helping schools for a good number of years with full support from their guests.
According to Mrs Stavroulakis, the gesture had been a long tradition that has benefited many schools in the country.
She added that The Gambia Experience also assists schools in the urban areas, aided by their guests who like to travel to the rural areas.
She however urged the beneficiaries to properly use the money for the benefit of their respective schools and the country.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of his school, Mr Mustapha Saine, headmaster of Fonkoi Lower Basic School, expressed gratitude to the management of The Gambia Experience for their “noble gesture”.
He added that the gesture will go a long way in helping to raise the level of education in the country and promised to use the money for its intended purpose.
