Over 600 youths harvest President Jammeh’s farm

Monday, November 10, 2008
A group of over 600 hundred Gambian youths - drawn from various youth and sports organisations - over the weekend descended on President Jammeh’s groundnut farm at Somita, Western Region.

The youths who were mobilised by the Department of State for Youth and Sports took part gathering the groundnut into heaps that were left to dry.

Speaking to reporters shortly after the day-long exercise, Mr Sheriff Gomez, secretary of state for Youths and Sports, said the move to work on the President’s farm was in response to the appeal made by the Gambian leader for people to assist him.

He expressed satisfaction with the work done on the farm, noting that the youths were able to harvest the whole farm within a short period of time.

The Youth and Sports supremo said that young people have been at the forefront in reciprocating the efforts of President Jammeh who is a champion of national development, particularly in the areas of youth and sports.

SoS Gomez hailed the youth and sports organisations for their record turnout.
