Take on Ivory Coast Today

The Gambia U-17 team on Saturday defeated their Burkinabe counterparts 2-1 in the four-nation tournament currently underway in Abidjan.

The Gambia came behind to beat a well courageous Burkinabe side in their second outing in a tournament organised by the Ivorian Football Federation to mark the 47th Independence anniversary of their country.

Burkina Faso first opened the score in the 4th minute before Sainey Touray leveled the scores.

Paul Jatta alias Apapa netted the winning goal for the Young Scorpions.

The host, Ivory Coast, also defeated Niger in the first game on Saturday.

It could be noted that Gambia drew their first game last Thursday against Niger 1-1 and Burkina Faso also shared points 0-0 with host Ivory Coast the same day.

Gambia and Ivory Coast are now topping the table with 4 points and both teams would face each other today Monday at 16pm for a place to the final.

A draw would see them facing each other again in the final on Wednesday August 15, 2007.

Both Niger and Burkina Faso would be fighting for a place in the final but that would depend on the result in the game between Gambia and Ivory Coast.
