Sulayman Colley, Chairman of the Gambia Physically- Disabled Sports Association (GPDSA) has told Observer Sports that his association needs D80,000 to enable them take part in the upcoming regional disable sports competitions, due to take place in Mauritania starting in early February, 2007.
Mr Colley said the association has been invited to represent The Gambia to the annual competition, which will feature various sporting disciplines, including wheel chair basketball tournament, short put, javelling, wheelchair race and tri-cycle race.
According to Mr Colley, 18 members of his association have been selected to attend the competition which will be graced by several other African disable sporting associations. “The competition is a rotational event held annually and there is possibility that we’ll host it in the near future. So, our participation is of paramount importance,” Colley admitted.
Mr Colley therefore pledged for all stakeholders to come and give them helping hands, adding that sports is not only for the abled persons but also people with disabilities.”
