Gambia Pastors Intercessory Forum (GPIF) on Friday April 20th converged at the Office of the Nigerian High Commissioner to The Gambia to pray for peace to prevail in Nigeria during and after the Presidential elections.

In his opening prayers, Rev. Dohn Augustyn Bernards, founder of GPIF and the General Overseer of Chosen Generation Ministries, The Gambia said, “in the obedience of God, who has asked us to pray for peace to all, so therefore the Gambian Pastors have gathered here today to offer prayers to Nigeria during and after the elections”.

He went on to say that Nigeria is one of the biggest countries in Africa, noting that if Nigeria experience problem, then there is likely that some parts of Africa will also encounter some difficulties.

He further went on to say that whoever criticizes the authority, critics God. ‘“Only God ordains leaders and emphasizes that those who said evil againts governments should stop abusing God, as those governments are appointed by God through people,’’ he said.

For his part, Rev. J.E.K Adjorlolo, Vice-Chairman of GPIF, said Nigeria is a big nation that needs peace. “I have been in Nigeria for so many years and it is a country that is blessed with mineral and natural resources that are not found in other African countries.

We as Africans must not allow violence to sound in our continent,’’ he pointed out. In her welcoming remarks, Mariam Mohammad, Nigerian High Commissioner to The Gambia thanked the pastors and described their initiative as a good move.

She seized the opportunity to express dissatisfaction to the way media in Nigeria operates.

The occasion was attended by several pastors from different nations who also expressed word of God, quoting Bible.

The GPIF used the occasion to officially invite the Nigerian High Commissioner to attend prayers at St Thereses Church, Westfield on Sunday, 29th April 2007.
