10-year Jail Term for Convict

The trial of one Abdou Sallah on charges of drug trafficking has now come to a definitive conclusion.

The Brikama Magistrates’ Court, chaired by Edrisa E.F. Mbai, on Thursday slammed a 10-year mandatory jail term on Sallah after being found guilty of drug possession.

He was also fined D1m in default to spend five years in jail. Besides, his vehicle would be forfeited to the State.

The convict, a commercial van driver, was arraigned before the court when 53kg and 40g of marijuana was found in his vehicle. He was intercepted at a checkpoint mounted by the police in Kanfenda en route to Basse.

Before handing down his judgement, Magistrate Mbai emphasized that transportation, exportation, production, among many others, contravene the Drug Control Act of 2004 as amended.
