As Policeman Testifies

A police officer attached to Gunjur Police Station in Kombo South was the latest prosecution witness in the trial of one Muhammed Saidy over allegation of defiling a 13-year-old girl.

Testifying before magistrate Edrisa Mbai at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court mid this week, Musa Sisokho acknowledged knowing the accused as well as the parents of the teenager. He informed the court that he received a case file on 2 January of this year that the 13-year-old girl was raped by Saidy.

According to the prosecution, it was thereupon that he interrogated the girl who alleged that she was raped and that the culprit was Saidy. He explained that before her session with the teenager, she was taken to Gunjur Health Centre where it was medically confirmed that the girl was indeed deflowered.

But under cross-examination, Saidy asked the witness whether he was aware of the ‘transaction’ between him and his alleged victim. He also enquired from the witness as to whether he (Saidy) had any carnal knowledge of the teenager.

The case resumes May 23 for continuation.
