- Office of the President

Amidst the general price hike of a whole gamut of consumer commodities, prominent among which is cement and rice, the Office of the President has reportedly received numerous letters supposedly soliciting approval for importation of cement into the country.

In an attempt to dispel the misconception that approval is required from the Office of the President for such business undertakings, the office has issued a news release to inform the business community that no business entity requires the approval of the Office of the President to import such commodities. “Following numerous letters received from individuals and businesses seeking approval to import cement, the Office of the President has issued a news release to inform the business community that no business entity, be they individuals or companies, require the approval of the Office of the President before, now, or in the future, to import cement or any basic commodity. The release says that any individual or group that wants to import and sell quality cement, rice, fertilizers and other commodities in the Gambia is free to do so.

The release further reaffirmed government’s commitment to a free market enterprise that promotes a healthy competition which, it says, is a fundamental element of the Gambia’s Vision 2020.
