Henry Gomez, the leader of the opposition Gambia People Democracy Party (GPDP), has condemned attempts by some Gambian dissidents in Senegal to destabilise The Gambia with support from the Senegalese authorities.
This condemnation came following our Monday lead story captioned “Senegal Continues to Destabilise Gambia”.
Speaking to this reporter in an exclusive interview yesterday, Gomez stated that Gambians now are totally against unlawful acts of change of a government. He cited last year’s 10,000-Man March in condemnation of the March 21st, 2006 foiled Coup as a crystal example of “peoples’ readiness to say no to such acts”.
According to him, whoever wants to rule The Gambia should form a political party and seeks the peoples’ mandate through the ballot box.
He described the dissidents’ action as fruitless as they will woefully fail for such acts have never materialised since the birth of the Second Republic.
He described the Senegal-based dissidents as terrorists whose aim is to turn peaceful Gambia into the likes of the Sudanese region of Darfur. This, he noted, will never be accepted.
Mr. Gomez then appealed to the Senegalese authorities to sit and discuss the issue with their Gambian counterparts to put an end to the situation.
