At least 13 women of different nationalities were on Tuesday convicted and sentenced to one month imprisonment by Magistrate Amina Saho-Ceesay of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court. The women were charged for rogues and vagabond.
They were Fatou Camara, Titi Zagor, Sally Sanneh, Winifred Bombo, Sadia Greenfield, Yasha Pewueex, Haddijatou Koroma, Jeania Gor, Isha Koroma, Haddy Bah, Nyima Ceesay, Jennifer Davis, and Binta Cham. All the women pleaded guilty to the offence.
Acconding to the particulars of the offence, on 7th March, 2007 at the Tourist Development Area, the convicts were found in circumstances concluded that they were on “illegal or disorderly purpose.”
In their mitigation, the accused persons begged for mercy, as they are first offenders.
In his judgment, Magistrate Saho-Ceesay said the act of rogues and vegabond is on the increase. She then vowed to punish the paraded women in order to curb the menace and deter others.
She sentenced them to a fine of D1, 500 each or in default to serve one month imprisonment each. She also ordered them to keep the peace.
